why I do it

Some days it feels like being engaged and aware is a burden of care I don’t want - what a relief it would be to just focus on my needs and my life and ignore the animal, planet and human suffering that is a constant feature of my daily news and social media feeds.

There are times it feels like we share the planet with obnoxious hotel guests partying as hard as they can, happy to leave someone else to clean up their mess. There is overwhelming suffering everywhere you look and given the apparent disregard that many have for this suffering it can feel too hard and too big to address and most people seem able to dissociate, ignore or perhaps simply don’t care.

But as you scroll quickly through the incongruous mashup of commerce and suffering that is so ubiquitous it hardly shocks you, you pause on an image of a lamb in a jersey, leaping and gamboling in such pure expression of joy and hope that again you feel the passion and determination to do whatever you can to be part of some change, however small.

I want to be part of the collective message of hope that change organisations bring and rather than just scrolling and liking and getting on with my day I want to infuse words with action and try and help people connect with what is important.

People coming together, raising their voice against the tide of complacency and will to consume, striving to raise awareness and force change, no matter how unpopular or inconvenient that change or truth might be.
